This is my camel, Amuz. Dad's camel was called Michael Jackson. I had the smallest camel. Camels are amazing because they have a big hump to store water. They can go a very long time, 4 weeks, with out drinking. There hump stores the water, and over time, the hump will get smaller. They can also eat spikey plants, and get the moisture from these plants. They have big hooves for walking and balancing in the desert. When there is water, a camel can drink up to 60 litres in a few minutes. The berber people love camels. For weddings and celebrations they eat camel. They also drink its milk. I tried camel milk, it has a very strong flavour.  A camel is also amazing because they can carry up to 300 kilograms. Years ago, camels were the only way to carry lots of goods long distances through the deserts.

It felt very rocky riding the camel at first, but then you got used to it, and it felt soft. I was scared at first - especially getting up and down - as the camel uses its back legs first, then front legs, so you sway a lot, and you really have to hang on. When your on the camel, you feel really high up.

We wanted to see the sunset. I wanted to run to the top and run all the way down. It was a huge mountain of sand. I had seen a desert before in egypt but that was many years ago, so I just remember it through photos. It felt fun to run - running down I actually did a big flip. I didn't hurt myself because the sand was so soft. It was also very cool in temperature. When you step you sink into the sand so you can lose balance easily. It was also very steep. My legs became numb walking up. The view was spectacular. I felt amazed. Mum and I had a big hug at the top of the dune. I wanted to hold mums hand going down and run really fast  because I thought it would be fun, but mum felt a bit scared of heights so she followed all of my steps down. I ran down as fast as i could.

the Sahara is a huge desert with foxes, bugs, camels and scorpions which is really fascinating because when it is winter all of animals borrow underground so they still they are warm.  Sahara gets really hot at and really cold night - this makes it a harsh environment for animals and plants.

When I was going up and waiting for mum,  I drew on the sand. I drew apples, a skull, a person and a stickmen. I had lots of rests, going uphill on a sand dune is tiring. We are in morocco - but the distance in the distance is another country called Algeria.

We spent the night in the desert. We slept in a tent. It was very cold. It was great sleeping out in the desert. We tried using a sled down the dunes but it didn't really work. Hugo liked the camels. He fell asleep on the camel.

this was one of our tents.

We also staid in a little town in the desert. We went to this house with this friend called Oma and we had dinner with his family and this boy who was so annoying. No one used knifes or forks, they ate with their hands. We first had biscuits and tea. Omar bought out water so we could all wash our hands before we ate. Hugo and I had a plate of food, but everyone else just shared a big dish. We had Goat Tagine that Omar's mum made. The house was was very big, but there was little furniture. To eat, no one uses chairs, you just sit on the carpets.

The moroccans like to eat lamb and goat. I liked sitting on the floor to eat. It was cool. The tables are very low.
